Protestantism rightly understood is a principle. It is a principle which works out from the heart, which has influenced the doctrines of Churches, and which has transformed the course of nations.
A series of presentations examining the godly and profound influence of the German Reformation upon the Christian Church.
The Holy Spirit, however, has set times, when He works extraordinarily, pouring Himself out with dramatic and unprecedented results, in order that the Church might be strengthened for future times:
“Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.” (Psalm 102:13)
“The heart of the Spirit is infinitely more tender towards us than that of the most affectionate parent can be towards an only child.
In the best possible sense the Christian should be addicted to the Holy Ghost, craving each and every day His infilling. This study poses a challenging question that we need to take to heart:
Have we a thirst for the power of the Holy Ghost?
The term sanctification means to be set apart for God. Sanctification is the ongoing process of dying unto sin and living unto righteousness…People progressing in Sanctification are being changed in their hearts by the Holy Ghost into the likeness of Christ.
The intercession of the Spirit is not to be confused with the intercession of Christ at the right hand of God. Christ prays for us as our Mediator. The Holy Spirit, however, prays within our hearts, giving us desires, praises and petitions as we pray. Therefore the intercession of the Holy Ghost is our intercession and His groanings are our groanings.
“…in assuring us the Holy Ghost brings us to the place where we have an affectionate intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, learning to cry out for His presence and to rely upon Him utterly.”
The word regeneration denotes the new birth which brings new life to the soul. The necessity of this doctrine was especially articulated by Jesus Christ in His conversation with Nicodemas. Christ’s emphasis was that regeneration is a spiritual work in which man is passive, because he is flesh. Only the Holy Ghost can effect such a spiritual change in the life of the sinner.
